HSK Level V Introduction


The HSK Level 5 exam assesses your ability to use Chinese at Level 5 in the “Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages” and Level C1 in the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)”. Candidates who pass the HSK Level 5 exam can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, enjoy Chinese films and television programs, and give more complete speeches in Chinese.

Test Target


The HSK 5 assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level V of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the C1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF).

The HSK (Level V) test will last for a total of 125 minutes (including 5 minutes in which the test takers fill in personal information).



Exams Description


The whole exam takes approximately 125 minutes (including 5 minutes to fill in your personal information). The maximum score is 300 points and the pass mark is 180 points.


i. Listening Section

2 types of question, 45 questions in total, 100 points available.


1. Part 1 (20 questions): Select the answer that matches the short conversation and question you hear.
2. Part 2 (25 questions): Select the answer that matches the long conversation and question you hear.

Point To Be Noted: (You have approximately 30 minutes to answer the questions, plus 5 minutes to fill in your answer card)


ii. Reading Section

3 types of question, 45 questions in total, 100 points available.


1. Part 1 (15 questions): Select the words to fill in the blanks and complete the text.
2. Part 2 (10 questions): Select the option that matches the text.
3. Part 3 (20 questions): Select the correct answer to the question based on the text.

iii. Writing Section

2 types of question, 10 questions in total, 100 points available.


1. Part 1 (8 questions): Arrange the words to make a sentence.
2. Part 2 (2 questions): Write piece 80 characters long about the picture or incorporating the words provided.

Results Certificate


For the HSK (Level V), four results will be provided including listening, reading, writing and the total. The test taker must score at least 180 points to be considered passing.
